Child-centred Approach
Here at St.Mark's Preschool we have adopted a 'child-centred' approach. This means
that we will always put the child at the centre of everything we do. We implemented a key person system which allows us to build up strong bonds with our key children and their families; and allows us to be knowledgeable and confident within our role of supporting every child's learning and development.
Our Curriculum
Our child-centred approach places emphasis the child's interests and the activities/experiences they enjoy. Within our key person role, we place a massive emphasis on the importance of knowing everything there is to know about our key children. This allows us to make accurate judgements through effective observations and assessments in relation to a child's stage of development. This child centred approach to our curriculum allows us to identify individual learning needs of every child. In line with the EYFS reforms; from September 2021; we use our knowledge of the EYFS and Birth to Five Matters; alongside our sound knowledge and understanding of the child and their interests, to plan age and stage appropriate activities that will stimulate, engage, challenge and create curiosity for every child.
Pedagogy
We apply a child-centred, play-based pedagogical approach within our setting. We recognise the quality of interactions between adults and children plays a highly importance role in stimulating early learning. At St.Mark's Preschool we ensure all practitioners are genuinely interested in what a child is doing - that we listen, that we extend children's thoughts and knowledge and that we implement sustained shared thinking methods. We find that this comes very natural to all our practitioners as we build such strong relationships with our key children. We ensure our teaching
has a balance of child led and adult led activities.
Our Values
-
Respect - Promoting a culture of tolerance, inclusion, diversity, equality , fairness and opportunity.
-
Ambitious - We encourage our children to be the best that they can be and strive to reach their full potential.
-
Teamwork - Communication, social and emotional skills are all strengthened when children learn how to work as a team. We welcome all our children and their families to become part of our community within preschool and to work together.
-
Engagement - Being involved, responsive , interested and interesting.
Our Vision
Positive, caring relationships based on trust and respect, are at the heart of our philosophy. We have a clear vision of what we want to achieve at St. Mark's Preschool:
